The Executive Summary should be a short introduction and overview of the Business Plan (no more than 2 pages)
with emphasis on the key elements of the business.
Technecial requirements are:
- Microsoft WORD “.doc” files are preferred. However, Acrobat “.pdf” files are acceptable.
No embedded graphic is allowed.
- Use Times New Roman Font 12.0, 1.5 line space.
- All electronic files should be no more or less than 200-300 dpi.
- All logo graphics must be converted to grayscale. No RGB, ‘spot ’ or Pantone colors can be accepted.
- Acceptable electronic files include .eps, .tif or .jpg files.
- Please send a backup copy of your files only. CCVF is not responsible for lost or damaged files.
Address the desired reader: the investor.
Build the Executive Summary using selected information from the Business Plan. The summary should offer an accurate representation of the business and should be written in a consistent, concise and interesting style.
Required content:
- The first paragraph is a critical part of the Executive Summary. It needs to be
exciting, draw attention to your company and persuade the reader to want to consider
your business plan and review the financials.
Remember the 20-second rule:
'You must make a compelling case and capture the interest of the reader within 20 seconds.'
The first paragraph should contain the following:
- Description of the business product/service
- Overview of the opportunity and strategy, including the value proposition
- Mention the goal(s) of the Company. (i.e. become the leader in field XYZ or solve problem XYZ)
- Mention the Company’s present status and timing to the achieve the goal(s) of the company
- Overview of the capital required to execute the plan.
- Describe the market for your product/service, include overall market size and describe
your niche in simple terms (more detail will be provided in the Business Plan).
- Describe the operations of the Company
- Describe the goal(s) of the Company.
- Name the Principals (the management team) & provide a one-sentence statement
regarding their position in the company and their qualifications in this type business
opportunity.
- Restate your Funding needs, describe how the funds will be used in basic terms,
and briefly mention the milestones that will be achieved using this capital.
- Be sure to show the Key Company contact at the bottom of the last page:
